Bike Mechanic / Educator (Bilingual Preferred)
Local Motion is looking for a Bike Mechanic Educator to work with the Bay Area BikeMobile, an innovative program designed to help youths use their bikes more often.
ABOUT LOCAL MOTION: Local Motion's mission is to improve the way we move. We teach people to safely and effectively walk, bike, and take public transit in an effort to create healthier communities. Local Motion supports Safe Routes to Schools, an international movement intended to reverse the alarming trend toward childhood inactivity and to reduce the production of green house gas emissions.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Bay Area BikeMobile hosts free bicycle repair and education events at schools, parks, and community events across 8 Bay Area counties: San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, and San Mateo. To learn more, visit www.bayareabikemobile.org.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Mechanic Educator repairs bicycles, engages participants in the repair process, and encourages ridership. This position is supervised by the Lead Mechanic and Program Director. Transportation to the job sites is available from North Oakland. This position is part time (15-40 hrs/wk). Scheduling is flexible.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 6 months of experience in youth education
• 6 months of experience repairing bikes in a shop setting, or equivalent experience
• Physical ability to lift 40 pounds
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Fluency in Spanish
• Experience as a bicycle commuter
• Experience working with diverse populations in the SF Bay Area and sensitivity to the
issues faced by low-income communities
HOURS AND COMPENSATION: Events last 3-4 hours plus 2-3 hours of paid transportation time. The pay rate is $18-20/hr.

Transportation to the job sites is available from North Oakland. This is a part time position ranging from 6-30 hours a week depending on our schedule and your availability. Work is available on weekends for students that are busy during the school week.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working with handheld tools
• Physical ability to lift 40 pounds
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience as a bicycle commuter
• Experience repairing bicycles
• Experience engaging with and educating the public
